Bible Study: Changing The Truth

Changing the Truth 07.24.08

Hello My Friend/Guest,

It is Thursday July 24, 2008 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Proverbs. Please read Chapters 12-15 in your Bible or Click Here to read. Cut & Paste to your browser: biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2012-15&version=9

Today we will read and learn about Moral virtues and the pitfalls of evil. Today’s message focuses on the importance of realizing that we are often tempted to modify the truth to fit our situation, but when we try to change truth, no matter how convenient, it becomes a lie.

Besides being a revelation of God to man, the Bible is meant to provide practical instruction that covers every aspect of life. Contrasts are often used to illustrate the meanings of a proverb. “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.” (Proverb 12:19-22). In other words God is telling us that a lying tongue destroys trust through another person’s word. Just one conversation can do evil that will last a lifetime if we tell or are told one little lie.

It was Satan’s lying tongue that brought death and all our suffering into the world, and spoiled the paradise which God had prepared for Adam and Eve. The tongue of a liar strips a man of what makes life beautiful, takes away his good name, and breaks bonds of friendship. In contrast, wise and kind words help to heal the wounded spirit. “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” (15:1-4).

Truth is the great need today, truth in word and deed as well as our thoughts. Jesus came into the world to restore fellowship between God and mankind which was first broken by the slandering tongue of the devil. “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” (John 18:37b).

In today’s reading Jesus Christ is revealed as the One who hates lying (Proverbs 12:22). “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:7-8).

Today’s Prayer:
Dear Lord,
How special it is to know that we will not appear as a stranger before You in heaven, but You will call us by name for You are thoroughly acquainted with us.  As a loving father cares for his child so You care for us, your children.  You place us in the palm of Your hand and no enemy can snatch us from Your protective and loving care.  What a tremendous and calm feeling this brings to our hearts this new day. In Jesus’ name…..Amen.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
God Bless,
Christina
